Types of Bravery:

1. Dill dares Jem to go touch the Radleys house and then says, "I won't say you ran out on a dare an' I'll swap you The Gray Ghost if you just go up and touch the house." This shows bravery because there are many stories about how dangerous the Radleys house is. (18)

2.  Atticus defends a black man, saying it is his job (100-101)

3.Dill runs away and takes a train to Maycomb by himself (187)
Social Codes:

LOTF Body Paragraphs

Will Walker
In the Lord of the Flies, the boys who follow Jack have long unkempt hair and act much wilder than the boys with shorter hair.  The boys who look up to Jack are following someone who has shown time and time again that he is starting to lose his sanity. For example, at the beginning of the book when all he wanted to do was hunt and not take care of the fire or other ways to get rescued (page #).   Jack was a clean-cut British schoolboy, with a wealthy background, but now that he is on the island, alone, and with no one to give him each meal of the day he is becoming barbaric in his actions.  He seems so desperate for meat and will do anything to get it, like when the fire went out Jack became really excited and jumped up with a knife in his hand and pretty much screaming screw the fire we probably wont get rescued so we to need find meat. Golding has made it clear that his hair is longer than all of the other boys, showing that he is the leader of the “wild boys” (page #).  Jack seems to be going back into the state of mind like his ancestors had because there is no one there to help him so he has decided to feed himself, at any cost.
Piggy, who has short hair throughout the book, is the only one that clearly thinks out the situations he faces.  He seems to have every idea for the rescue such as making a fire for boats to see and building houses so the children have a safe place to go and act as a comfort zone (page #).  Although the ideas are Piggy’s, he does not have the self confidence to tell the whole group of kids so he gets Ralph to make the speeches.  Ralph also has short hair at the beginning of the book, but even Ralph the respected leader falls to his human survival ways and his hair grows crazy and long.  Golding does this to say that people of high stature can lose it at any moment.  Hair is a symbol of sanity in the Lord of the Flies, throughout the book the kids change in big ways.

1. Use a comma to separate the elements in a series.
EX: Will you pick up my hat, shirt, and my golf clubs.

2. Use a comma + a little conjunction (and, but, for, nor, yet, or, so) to connect two independent clauses.
EX: I hit a solid shot, but it hit the cartpath.

3. Use a comma to set off introductory elements
EX: Walking to the wrong hole, he noticed how silly he looked.

4. Use a comma to set off parenthetical elements
EX: The brand new golf ball, which is expensive, was a very good find.

He was the only boy on the island whose hair never seemed to grow

This quote is talking about how the other children are changing and how Piggy is staying tied to his values.  The hair is a symbol of how "wild" the kids have become.  Piggies hair has not grown very much at all, suggesting that he has stayed to his morals and has not changed.  Golding wanted to serve this as a metaphor for life, stick to your guns and dont change your views just because the people around you are doing a ceartain thing.

"He was the only boy on the island whose hair never seemed to grow."

This quote is talking about piggy.  I think the hair represents how the boys have changed from their city school going selves to wild boys who hunt their food and build fires for rescue.  Jack hunts the most and his hair is the longest, Piggy has not really changed his views throughout the book.  Golding is trying to show that unlike everyone else Piggy is keeping to what he thinks is right.  I think Golding is using Piggy as a life lesson, don't let your surroundings change your beliefs and morals.
